The so-called “Tough on Crime” ideology and its accompanying harsh sentencing statutes and practices do not work! That theory has been thoroughly debunked by decades worth of data from across the country.

It does not make us safer or reduce crime acts. Every other State has already awakened to this fact and have begun to restore fair and proportionate sentencing laws, resulting in lower crime rates and recidivism than Arizona.

More importantly, Arizona’s harsh sentencing laws, don’t heal individuals or communities. What it does is fan the flames of fear, hopelessness, and recidivism. This is NOT the way forward!

By passing HB2270, we can make a difference, and all of Arizona will benefit.

For 25 years, Arizona law has blocked the opportunity for our incarcerated brothers and sisters to earn their way back to our families, regardless of the nature of their offense or their efforts to rehabilitate. House Bill 2270 restores that opportunity for those who earn it.
